Summary

Golden Grove Elementary School in West Palm Beach, FL, is a large PK-5 school serving 956 students within the Palm Beach district, and it stands out as a strong, above-average school that consistently delivers solid academic results despite having a higher percentage of students from economically diverse backgrounds (37.45% qualifying for free or reduced lunch) and lower per-pupil spending ($12,010) compared to many nearby peers.

What makes Golden Grove particularly impressive is its balanced and consistent academic performance. In the most recent testing year, proficiency rates in English Language Arts (69-76%) and Math (64-74%) were not only above district and state averages but also tightly clustered, indicating uniform instructional quality across all subjects. However, there is one notable area of concern: 3rd Grade Math proficiency (64%) has consistently lagged behind the district average, suggesting a specific challenge in early elementary math instruction. Additionally, the school reports a fascinating anomaly—a perfect 100% proficiency rate in 6th Grade Math, which likely reflects a small group of advanced 5th graders taking a higher-level course. When compared to nearby Binks Forest Elementary School (a 5-star school), Golden Grove achieves strong results with fewer resources, making it a high "value-add" school where teachers and administration are getting more out of less.

The biggest barrier to Golden Grove reaching a 5-star rating is its chronic absenteeism rate of 27.4%, which is significantly higher than top-performing peers like Binks Forest (15.6%) and Western Academy Charter School (15.2%). This issue, combined with lower spending per student compared to schools like Cypress Trails Elementary ($15,182) and Royal Palm Beach Elementary ($17,680), suggests that external factors—not instructional quality—are holding the school back. For parents, Golden Grove offers a solid, above-average education with a dedicated staff, but addressing attendance will be key to unlocking its full potential.

Open Quote Every teacher I had at that school was motivating, caring, and inspiring. They are the ones who set the foundation for my success, and I attribute much of what I know to their skill. I was in the program "Project CHILD" but I'm not sure if it stuck around. It was the most brilliant concept for an Elementary school. I truly hope that the program is still in use because I could not have soared in English or come to understand Algebra without it. Close Quote
