Summary

Waters Edge Elementary School in Boca Raton, FL, is a high-performing public school serving 706 students in grades PK through 5 as part of the Palm Beach School District.

Waters Edge has a long and consistent history of academic excellence, earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger for every year on record and ranking in the 99th percentile of all Florida elementary schools over the last five years. This elite performance is a key differentiator from nearby schools. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, Waters Edge ranked 33rd in the state, while excellent neighbors like Heron Heights Elementary School ranked 152nd. Another standout metric is its remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of just 12.2% in 2023-2024, which is roughly half the rate of high-performing peers like Sunrise Park Elementary School (15.5%) and significantly lower than the state average (31.4%). This points to a highly engaged student body and a strong school culture that prioritizes attendance.

While Waters Edge remains a top-tier school, there are a few areas worth noting. The school has seen a slight downward trend in its state ranking over the last few years, from a peak of 19th in 2022-2023 to a projected 136th for 2025-2026, suggesting other schools may be improving faster. Additionally, a recurring pattern is a significant drop in math proficiency between 4th and 5th grade—for instance, 84% proficiency in 4th grade falling to 74% in 5th grade in the 2025-2026 school year. This dip is more pronounced than at Sunrise Park Elementary School, where 5th-grade math (92%) actually exceeded 4th-grade math (81%) in the same year. Overall, Waters Edge is a historically elite school with a strong culture of achievement, but families may want to keep an eye on these trends to ensure it maintains its leadership position among a very strong field of nearby schools.

Open Quote This is a school that is completely focused on their 'gifted' program as well as keeping as clean of a record as possible. My child received an intentional head injury from another student and the school did nothing until I reached out to the Police and our pediatricians. If you are not in the gifted program or are faced with any degree of bullying that is alive and well here, you are done!! There's a lot of smoke & mirrors here so don't let the 10 on 10 rating fool you like it did me. Close Quote
