Summary

Gove Elementary School in Belle Glade, FL, serves 691 students from Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade and is part of the Palm Beach School District, which ranks in the middle of Florida districts. The school serves a high-poverty community, with over 80% of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, and it spends significantly more per student ($20,465) than the state average while maintaining a favorable student-to-teacher ratio of 13.7:1.

A standout feature of Gove Elementary is its exceptional 6th-grade performance, which is a bright spot in an otherwise challenging academic picture. While grades 3-5 consistently score below district and state averages, the 6th-grade students achieve proficiency rates at or above state and district levels—for example, 6th-grade ELA reached 63% in 2025-2026, matching the district and exceeding the state. This is unique because most nearby elementary schools, like Rosenwald Elementary School and Belle Glade Elementary School, only serve up to 5th grade. However, the school's overall state ranking has historically been in the bottom 20%, though it has shown improvement from the 8th percentile in 2022-2023 to the 18th percentile in 2025-2026. Chronic absenteeism is a concern at 28.4%, but this is notably lower than nearby schools like K. E. Cunningham/Canal Point Elementary (53.1%) and Pahokee Elementary School (42.7%).

Comparing Gove to nearby schools reveals interesting contrasts. Rosenwald Elementary School, just 4 miles away, serves a similarly high-poverty population but achieves dramatically better results, ranking in the 57th percentile with standout 3rd-grade math proficiency of 86%. This shows that high poverty is not an insurmountable barrier and provides a local benchmark for what Gove could achieve. Meanwhile, Glades Academy Inc, a charter school with lower poverty rates and lower spending, has volatile and generally low performance, ranking in the 1st percentile. Gove's high spending has not yet translated into top-tier results, but the positive trend in 6th grade and overall improvement suggest potential for continued growth.

Open Quote My children attended another Palm Beach County school, then later started with Gove Elementary. Since starting at Gove Elementary my kids reading level, focus and spelling has dropped tremendously the teachers are out of the loop so to speak. I have sent correspondence to the teachers and received back if any misspelled incomplete notes. I will not have my kids there much longer as with any parent, our children deserve quality education to thrive today. Close Quote
