Summary

Lakewood Ranch High School in Bradenton, FL, is a large, high-performing public school serving 2,422 students in grades 9-12 within the Manatee County School District, and it stands out as a top choice for families seeking strong academics and a supportive environment.

This school consistently ranks among the top 25% of Florida high schools, with a remarkable 96.7% graduation rate that far exceeds both the district and state averages. Students excel in core subjects like English Language Arts (71% proficient), Biology (84%), and US History (78%), outperforming nearby schools such as Braden River High School and Southeast High School. Notably, Lakewood Ranch achieves these results with efficient spending of $8,811 per student, which is lower than many comparable schools, including Booker High School in the Sarasota district, which spends over $14,000 per student. However, one area of concern is Algebra 1 proficiency, where only 48% of students meet standards—well below the state average of 63%—suggesting a potential need for curriculum review in that subject.

While Lakewood Ranch is a standout in Manatee County, it faces a hidden challenge with a chronic absenteeism rate of 25.6%, which, though better than the district average, is still significant for a top-tier school. For parents comparing options, this school offers a clear advantage over its closest rival, Braden River High School, which has lower test scores and a higher rate of economic disadvantage. Overall, Lakewood Ranch provides a high-quality, cost-effective education that rivals even schools in higher-ranked districts, making it a compelling choice for families in the Bradenton area.

Open Quote I had two go through Lakewood Ranch (graduated 201 and 2019), They loved the school, loved their teachers, and it set them up for successful university. Sports and club activities are very good. Is it perfect, no, but what public school in Florida is. Close Quote
