Summary

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School is a public charter high school in Tampa, FL, serving 624 students in grades 9-12 within the Hillsborough district, and it stands out as a high-performing academic island compared to its neighbors.

This school consistently outperforms nearby traditional high schools in nearly every subject. For example, 77% of 10th graders are proficient in English Language Arts, compared to just 34% at Chamberlain High School and 56% at Hillsborough High School. Brooks DeBartolo also boasts a near-perfect graduation rate of 98.7%, far above the district average of 90.9% and dramatically higher than Middleton High School (86.8%) or West University Charter High (39.6%). Chronic absenteeism is also low at 20.4%, less than half the rate seen at Gaither High School (43.6%) or Chamberlain (48.4%). The school achieves these results with efficient spending of $9,481 per student, lower than many peers.

One area for attention is Algebra 1 proficiency, where only 37% of students meet standards—well below the state average of 63%. This is a notable weak spot in an otherwise strong academic profile. While the school’s state ranking has slipped from a peak of 58th in 2015-2016 to 184th recently, its test scores and graduation rates remain high and stable, suggesting other schools are simply improving faster. For parents seeking a high-achieving, well-resourced charter with a strong track record, Brooks DeBartolo is a standout choice in Tampa.
