Summary

Apollo Beach K-8 School is a high-performing public school in Apollo Beach, FL, serving 794 students from Pre-K through 8th grade within the Hillsborough district.

This school stands out for its exceptional academic performance, particularly in math and science, where it consistently outperforms nearly all nearby non-magnet schools by a wide margin. For example, in 5th-grade math, Apollo Beach achieved 84% proficiency, compared to just 62% at the nearby Doby Elementary School. Its 5th-grade science scores are also a standout, with 78% of students proficient—a full 23 points above the district average. The school also benefits from a strong culture of attendance, with a chronic absenteeism rate of 19.1%, which is significantly lower than the district average of 31.3% and far below neighbors like Cypress Creek Elementary School (41.6%) and Corr Elementary School (41.3%). While the nearby Dorothy C York Pk-8 Magnet School edges it out in some subjects, Apollo Beach remains a top-tier neighborhood school that is remarkably stable and efficient, spending less per student ($10,420) than any of its struggling peers while achieving far better results.

One interesting pattern is a slight dip in 4th-grade performance, which may be a curriculum transition point worth noting. However, the school’s K-8 structure provides a cohesive experience that helps middle school students thrive, especially in math, where 6th, 7th, and 8th graders all score 81% or higher proficiency. Overall, Apollo Beach K-8 is a reliable, high-achieving choice for families seeking a strong academic foundation without the need for a magnet application.

Open Quote This is a top class school with caring staff. Apollo Beach Elementary School has just received the 'School of Great Character' award for 2013 !! The school continually maintains a high ranking partly due to the excellent work of it's staff and also partly because of the great efforts and voluntary contribution from many of the parents. The school building itself is slightly older but this has no affect on the school's excellent record. My six year old is currently in first grade and very very happy, and my two year old will be joining in a few years. Highly recommended !!! Close Quote
