Summary

Belle Terre Elementary School in Palm Coast, FL, is a large school serving 1,288 students in grades PK through 7, and is part of the Flagler district, which ranks in the top 20% of Florida districts.

Belle Terre has a unique academic profile: while its overall state ranking has slipped from a 4-star to a 3-star rating in recent years, its 5th graders consistently outperform district and state averages in both English Language Arts and Math. For example, 68% of 5th graders were proficient in ELA, compared to 59% for the district and 61% for the state. This "5th grade bump" is a notable strength, especially when compared to nearby schools like Bunnell Elementary and Rymfire Elementary, which see a drop in performance at that grade level. The school has also made significant progress in reducing chronic absenteeism, dropping from 22% to 27.2%—a rate now better than the district and state averages, and far lower than Wadsworth Elementary (35.1%).

A key factor shaping the school is a rapid socioeconomic shift: the percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch dropped from 58% to 40% in just two years, making Belle Terre the second most affluent school in the district after Old Kings Elementary. This change is likely driving improvements in test scores and attendance. Interestingly, Belle Terre achieves better academic outcomes than several nearby schools while spending less per student ($11,058 vs. $13,749 at Bunnell). While schools in the top-ranked St. Johns district, like Otis A. Mason Elementary, outperform Belle Terre in early grades, Belle Terre’s 5th-grade results are competitive, and it outperforms South Woods Elementary in St. Johns, which struggles despite its district’s reputation.

Open Quote I have a daughter who has attended this school for two years. We had a great opportunity to work with the same teacher for two years as teachers have option to move up with students. This allows some continuity and extra teaching as teacher and students know each other's weaknesses and strengths. I'm sorry that my child has to find another teacher for next year. The teacher works with parents to the success of the child. We were always informed and involved with class work and activities. Close Quote
