Summary

Arlington Elementary School in Jacksonville, FL, is a small, Title I-eligible school serving 179 students in grades PK-5 in the Arlington neighborhood, with a free/reduced lunch rate of 55.87% (2024-2025).

This school stands out for a few key reasons. First, it has a remarkable strength in 3rd-grade math, with 76% of students proficient in 2025-2026—10 points above both the Duval district and state averages. This is a huge contrast to nearby schools like Bridgeprep Academy (12%) and Grasp Academy (11%). However, this success doesn't carry over to other subjects or grades; for example, 3rd-grade English Language Arts proficiency is only 37%, creating a 39-point gap. Second, the school has a very low student-teacher ratio of 13.7:1, which is much better than neighbors like Lake Lucina Elementary (20.6:1) and Arlington Heights Elementary (26.1:1). Despite this potential for individualized attention, overall academic performance remains low, ranking in the bottom quartile of Florida elementary schools.

The most critical challenge is a crisis-level chronic absenteeism rate of 58.9% (2023-2024), which is 14 points higher than the Duval district average and far above nearby schools like Parkwood Heights Elementary (41.8%). This rate has been above 50% for four years, undermining the benefits of small class sizes and above-average spending ($13,137 per student). In short, Arlington Elementary has a bright spot in 3rd-grade math, but its biggest hurdle is getting students to school consistently—without solving that, other advantages won't translate into better outcomes.

Open Quote I loved the school when I took a tour of it looking for a school to send my Son. I thought the principal was very nice and she knows all the students by name. I enrolled my child and I really am happy with him attending the school. The only downside this school has is lack of Parent involvement. At last years open house out of a very large class of 30+ only about a hand full of parents came to meet the teachers. Also I noticed that on the first day when your to bring school supplies, not many of the students brought any supplies. I felt like I was bringing supplies for everyone. Close Quote
