Summary

Kendale Elementary School is a public elementary school in Miami, Florida, serving 343 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Miami-Dade school district, which is ranked 22 out of 67 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Kendale Elementary consistently outperforms the Miami-Dade and Florida state averages in academic proficiency. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, 66% of Kendale's 5th-grade students achieved proficiency in Statewide Science/Science, compared to 56% for Miami-Dade and 55% for Florida. However, the school has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 6.8% in 2020-2021 to 31.4% in 2023-2024. Additionally, the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch has decreased from 62.74% in 2021-2022 to 41.4% in 2023-2024, suggesting a potential shift in the school's socioeconomic demographics.

When compared to nearby schools, Somerset Academy Bay, a public charter school located less than a mile away, has consistently outperformed Kendale in academic proficiency. However, the increase in chronic absenteeism at Kendale is not unique, as nearby schools in the Miami-Dade district have also experienced similar trends. The higher per-student spending at Kendale, which has increased from $14,876 in 2020-2021 to $17,705 in 2023-2024, may be a contributing factor to the school's strong academic performance.

Open Quote Kendale Elementary School is a wonderful school. From the teachers, office staff, and administration. All the way to the janitor and lunch ladies. They care, they learn your name and your child. The parent and grandparent involvement in PTA and volunteerism is second to none. Everyone works together to make the year exciting for the children. The curriculum is challenging and engaging. The Gifted program is one of the best in the nation. Our experience as involved parents has been stellar. We are truly lucky to be at a school with such a big heart and such a wonderful competitive spirit. PTA helps fund improvements to the school such as the filtered water-fountains that allow you to refill bottles from them and fun activities for the kids such as festivals. It's a great community and we are proud to be part of it. Close Quote
