Summary

Emerson Elementary School is a small, high-performing public elementary school in Miami, FL, serving 289 students from Pre-K through 5th grade as part of the Miami-Dade school district. This school stands out for its exceptional academic performance, ranking in the 86th percentile statewide and outperforming nearby schools like Flagami Elementary and Coral Park Elementary in nearly every subject. With 47% of students eligible for free or reduced lunch, Emerson demonstrates that a moderate level of economic diversity does not hinder its ability to achieve top-tier results.

One of Emerson's most remarkable strengths is its incredibly low chronic absenteeism rate of just 15.4%, far below the district average of 28.2% and the state average of 31.4%. This is significantly better than nearby schools such as Coral Terrace Elementary (23.2%) and Everglades K-8 Center (19.2%), suggesting a highly engaged student body and a strong school culture. The school also excels in math, with 89% of 3rd and 4th graders proficient compared to the district average of about 72%, and it defies the common "4th grade slump" by achieving the highest proficiency rates in both English Language Arts and Math at that grade level.

Emerson's small size of 289 students likely contributes to its close-knit community and ability to meet individual student needs, making it a compelling choice for parents seeking a personalized educational environment. While the school has shown a potential weakness in 5th-grade science in the past, it has recovered to 67% proficiency. Notably, Emerson achieves these results with a per-student spending of $16,097, which is less than several lower-performing nearby schools like Olympia Heights Elementary ($19,718), demonstrating efficient use of resources and a high return on investment.

Open Quote I had two kids in Emerson, but I changed to a charter school, and I do recommend to rest of the parents to do the same. This school it's getting worst and worst every year. The academics are very poor, there are not involvement of the community or parents. The principal, assist principal, staff, and teacher are not there for the children, they are in the school everyday just for the gossip and of course the check. My two girls were loosing their time in Emerson, no learning.
There are bully in fifth grade that hit the little ones.
This is one of the WORST school ever in south Florida.
Now my girls are much better in the charter school, no bully, academics are excellent, they have diversities of programs (music, art)math and science are the best.
Thank God I took my girls out of Emerson elementary school. Close Quote
