Summary

Barron Collier High School in Naples, FL, is a large, well-regarded public high school serving 1,472 students in grades 9-12 within the highly-ranked Collier district. The school has a strong track record of academic excellence, consistently earning top ratings and outperforming both district and state averages in most subjects. For example, 82% of 10th graders are proficient in English Language Arts, which is significantly higher than nearby Naples High School (70%) and Gulf Coast High School (69%). Barron Collier also boasts a stellar 97.9% graduation rate and a remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of 13.8%, far better than the state average of 31.4%.

One interesting finding is a persistent weakness in Algebra 1, where only 58% of students are proficient—below the district average of 75%. This stands in contrast to the school's strong performance in Geometry (76%), Biology (82%), and US History (75%). Another key dynamic is the close competition with Aubrey Rogers High School, located just 0.33 miles away. While Barron Collier has a longer history of high performance, Aubrey Rogers has rapidly closed the gap and now outperforms it in Biology (90% vs. 82%), US History (85% vs. 75%), and Geometry (78% vs. 76%). However, Barron Collier still leads in ELA (82% vs. 80%) and has a slightly lower chronic absenteeism rate (13.8% vs. 16.9%).

Barron Collier achieves these results with per-student spending ($12,959) that is in the middle of the pack among its peers, suggesting efficient use of resources. The school serves a relatively affluent student body, with 31.3% qualifying for free or reduced lunch. For comparison, Lorenzo Walker Technical High School achieves even higher test scores (91% in 10th Grade ELA) and a 99.3% graduation rate while serving a student body where 58.2% are economically disadvantaged, demonstrating that high poverty does not preclude high achievement. Overall, Barron Collier is a consistently high-performing school with a strong academic culture, though it faces the challenge of addressing its Algebra 1 weakness and maintaining its edge against its rising neighbor.

Open Quote Fantastic academic performance at this school. It is the only Nationally ranked HS in Collier County!! Furthermore, they have an excellent athletics department, and a great marching band, which performed recently in the Macys Thanksgiving day parade in NYC. The school has one of the highest percentages of AP students in any HS in Florida. BCHS sets the bar for other schools in the county. Close Quote
