Summary

Doctors Inlet Elementary School in Middleburg, FL, is a mid-sized school serving 545 students in grades PK-6 within the highly-rated Clay County School District.

This school stands out for its remarkable academic rebound and strong math program. After a dip in the 2024-2025 school year, Doctors Inlet jumped 283 spots in state rankings in 2025-2026, landing in the 61st percentile—a much stronger performance than nearby schools like Lakeside Elementary or Tynes Elementary, which remained flat. Math is a clear strength: in 3rd, 5th, and 6th grades, the school outperformed the district average, and it even beat Lakeside Elementary in multiple math grades despite having a similar economic profile. The school also excels at preparing students for middle school, with 6th graders consistently achieving high proficiency rates in both English and math. While it serves a more economically diverse population than top-performing neighbors like Robert M. Paterson Elementary or Fleming Island Elementary, Doctors Inlet adds significant value, outperforming other nearby schools with similar challenges, such as Coppergate Elementary and Ridgeview Elementary.

The school’s biggest challenge is chronic absenteeism, which has remained above 20% for several years—nearly double the rate of high-performing neighbors like Robert M. Paterson Elementary and Fleming Island Elementary. Addressing this issue would likely be the most impactful step for the school to close the gap with its high-flying peers. Overall, Doctors Inlet is a resilient school with a proven ability to overcome challenges, making it a solid choice for families seeking a school with strong math instruction and a dedicated focus on student growth.

Open Quote I am the grandmother of a Doctors Inlet Elementary 1st grade student. I recently had lunch at the school with him and it was a most unpleasant experience. From the time we entered the cafeteria until we left the lunch room monitor stood at the front of the room with a microphone and yelled. It was impossible to have a conversation or keep the attention of my grandson. All the children seemed to me to be behaving as they should. Children should be able to have their lunch in a peaceful environment. My grandson takes his lunch but I had chicken tenders and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were so thin they looked like pancake mix and the chicken was cold. I ate none of it. The next time I have lunch with my grandson I will take my lunch and we will eat outside. I have three children and six grandchildren and have eaten many lunches at their schools and never have I had such a bad experience. Close Quote
