Summary

Inverness Primary School is a public elementary school in Inverness, FL, serving 641 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Citrus County School District.

One of the most notable features of Inverness Primary is its higher per-student spending of $11,860, which is significantly more than nearby schools like Lecanto Primary School ($9,695) and Citrus Springs Elementary School ($9,294). The school also boasts a lower student-teacher ratio of 15.7:1, smaller than many area schools. Academically, Inverness Primary shows a real strength in 4th grade math, where 73% of students were proficient—12 points above the district average and 11 points above the state average. However, the school faces a significant challenge in 5th grade math, where proficiency drops to 51%, which is 11 points below the state average. This pattern of declining math performance as students move up suggests a possible curriculum gap or instructional challenge in the upper grades. Chronic absenteeism is also a persistent issue, with a rate of 30.2% in the 2023-2024 school year.

When compared to its closest neighbor, Pleasant Grove Elementary School, just 1.09 miles away, Inverness Primary has slightly lower economic disadvantage (49.3% vs. 48.2% free/reduced lunch) and spends more per student, yet its overall state ranking (38th percentile) is slightly lower than Pleasant Grove's (42nd percentile). This indicates that higher spending and smaller class sizes haven't yet translated into a clear academic advantage. A more striking contrast is with Lake Panasoffkee Elementary School, located 13.78 miles away in the higher-performing Sumter County district, where 5th grade math proficiency reaches 78% compared to Inverness's 51%. This highlights how district-level performance can significantly impact a school's outcomes.

Open Quote My children have been going here for several years. My daughter is now in fourth grade and my son is in second. Due to zoning, we must get a waiver for the children to attend this school. (Thank goodness for daycare locations!) I love it here, the kids get a top notch education, and the teachers are great. I have never had a problem. They are very big on safety and the kids learning. I admit that a few of the teachers give a lot of homework, but in all actuality, I really appreciate that. I want my kids smart and ready for middle school. Close Quote
