Summary

Somerset Academy East Preparatory is a small K-6 elementary school in Miramar, FL, serving just 167 students within the Broward district, and it has achieved a remarkable turnaround to earn a 4-star rating and rank in the 80th percentile statewide for the 2025-2026 school year.

This school stands out most for its exceptional math performance, with 97% of 4th graders proficient in math—a figure that is 25 points higher than the district average and 32 points higher than the state average. This strength has been consistent for several years, suggesting a highly effective math program. At the same time, the school has achieved a chronic absenteeism rate of 0.0%, an extraordinary figure compared to the district average of 33.6% and nearby schools like Pembroke Pines Elementary (32.5%) and Watkins Elementary (37.5%). This perfect attendance is a likely driver of the school's academic success. While English Language Arts scores are more mixed—with 3rd grade proficiency below average but 4th and 5th grade scores well above—the overall picture is one of a school that is achieving strong results despite serving a high-poverty population where 88% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

What makes this achievement even more impressive is the comparison to nearby schools. Pembroke Pines Elementary, just over a mile away, has a larger enrollment (559 students), a lower poverty rate (51%), and spends more per student ($15,350 vs. $12,056), yet it ranks in the 50th percentile with only 2 stars. Similarly, Miramar Elementary and Hollywood Park Elementary have lower poverty rates but rank significantly lower in statewide percentiles. Somerset Academy East Preparatory is a standout example of a small school that is efficiently using its resources to deliver exceptional math outcomes and near-perfect attendance, making it a compelling option for families in the area.

Open Quote This school doesn't offer any extra-curricula activities such as sports activities, art or music classes to name a few. All they care about is FCAT so they won't close them down. It is so "MONEY DRIVEN" worse than a private school. You can be a minute tardy, early or late you will be charged $5 for morning care and $25 for late pick up or tardy (there's no such thing as warnings). Everything is money$$$ spirit day-$1 to wear jeans which adds up, $3.50 for lunch and $2.50 for breakfast if you don't qualify for free or reduced lunch. The class sizes are huge there should be a ratio of 1:14, my child's kinder class ratio is 1:26 with no teacher's assistance (WOW). My child's kindergarten teacher has a close door policy. There's no welcoming feeling for parents. The only good thing about this school is that its up the street from our house literally 5 minutes away. I'm pulling my child out next year and I'm willing to drive to another county over 30 minutes away. This was one of the worst decision I ever made putting my daughter in this charter school.
