Summary

Annabel C. Perry Pk-8 in Miramar, FL, is a public school serving 562 students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade within the Broward County School District, and it stands out as a school in the midst of a powerful turnaround. The most immediate differentiator is its unique PK-8 grade configuration, which offers a stable, continuous educational environment from early childhood through middle school, unlike nearby elementary schools such as Miramar Elementary School or Fairway Elementary School that only serve up to 5th grade. This structure allows the school to excel in advanced coursework, with 8th graders achieving an impressive 94% proficiency in Biology 1 and 88% in Algebra 1, far surpassing district and state averages.

The school has also achieved a remarkable reduction in chronic absenteeism, dropping from 29.9% in the 2021-2022 school year to just 7.1% in 2023-2024—a dramatic 22.8 percentage point improvement. This rate is now significantly lower than the district average of 33.6% and far better than nearby schools like Watkins Elementary School (37.5%) and Fairway Elementary School (38.9%). This improvement, combined with consistent upward trends in subjects like 5th-grade Science (rising from 15% to 53% over three years), suggests that targeted interventions in attendance and instruction are yielding tangible results.

However, the school shows a clear split in performance: while its middle school grades are a significant strength, elementary grades (3-5) have more mixed results, with 4th-grade ELA at 45% and 5th-grade Math at 57% trailing behind the district average. This inconsistency is notable when compared to the top-performing nearby Somerset Academy East Preparatory, a charter school that achieves far superior elementary FAST assessment scores. Annabel C. Perry’s per-student spending ($15,238) is in the middle of the pack, indicating that its recent success is likely driven by effective resource allocation and teaching strategies rather than a higher budget alone. The primary area for continued focus is raising the consistency of elementary-grade test scores to match the high bar set by its middle school.

Open Quote Classrooms lacks of creativity, and colors, it looks like jail cells, it is very depressing to look at. Everything is old and dirty, from the shelves to the rest of the furniture, it is not the type of school I thought it would be like. The worst part is the people that work at that school, they are so cold, and looks like they hate their jobs, they look at you like you are a pest and like you are annoying them, I am afraid to even ask them a question. When I pick up my kids I have to look down so I don't have to feel so uncomfortable from their look and they way they just treat you. Close Quote
