Summary

Freedom 7 Elementary School Of International Studies is a K-6 school in Cocoa Beach, FL, serving 408 students and consistently ranking among the top 20 elementary schools in Florida, earning a perfect 5-star rating from SchoolDigger for nearly a decade. This school is an academic powerhouse, achieving 100% proficiency in 6th Grade Math and 99% in 6th Grade English Language Arts in the most recent testing year—far exceeding the Brevard district averages of 74% in both subjects. With a chronic absenteeism rate of just 4.3% (compared to the district's 21.1% and state's 31.4%), and only 10.54% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, Freedom 7 benefits from exceptionally high attendance and a low level of economic disadvantage, which contribute to its elite performance.

Interestingly, Freedom 7's success is not driven by higher spending; it spends $12,042 per student, less than several lower-performing nearby schools like Mila Elementary School ($18,217) and Cape View Elementary School ($16,099). Instead, its "International Studies" magnet theme attracts highly motivated families, creating a school culture that rivals high-performing private schools. A notable "Cocoa Beach Divide" exists: just 1.01 miles away, Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School ranks 510th in the state, with a 50% proficiency rate in 4th Grade Math versus Freedom 7's 97%, and a chronic absenteeism rate of 18.7% versus 4.3%.

Freedom 7 also shows a remarkable "6th Grade Spike," where its students achieve near-perfect scores in math and English, suggesting exceptional preparation for middle school. The school consistently outperforms the district by 30-40 percentage points in every subject and grade, serving as a benchmark for what's possible in Brevard County. For parents seeking a top-tier elementary education with a global focus, Freedom 7 offers unmatched consistency and results.

Open Quote Serious bullying issues and complaints were not investigated and dealt with appropriately. Quality of teaching and admin has gone down post pandemic Close Quote

Open Quote As with any school, one's experience at Freedom 7 depends largely upon the teacher your child receives. We had wonderful years and sub-par years. The students learn to achieve academic excellence, but at times this comes at the cost of extensive pressure and anxiety. There are some opportunities for a child who excels, but there are very few support systems for a child who is falling behind. Freedom 7 can offer a wonderful opportunities, but it's important to remember the rankings and test scores only offer a portion of the picture. Close Quote

Open Quote Love the school and it's challenging program! The IB aspect of the curriculum is wonderful. It's not for all children for sure. It's challenging and the teachers do expect excellence in effort, and participation from families is required. Close Quote

Open Quote The parent above, who uses the term "bully" in a fit of mindless hyperbole, is simply bitter because her child received bad grades for not turning in work. Far from being a "bully," that indicates the teacher's respect for the students who did the work. I would expect no less. If a child cannot produce in an advanced program, he or she should be removed to an average one to make room for the motivated pupil.

There will always be a small percentage of people who view the world as a source of excuses to blame their or their child's lack of success on. The truth is that academic excellence requires expectations, and in the face of expectations a lazy (not bored - that's just another excuse) student or two figured out that if he kept his mother mad at a teacher (by lying about the teacher), the mother wasn't mad at him. It must be embarrassing to be played like a cheap piano by a twelve-year-old...
In any event, the awards and accolades collected by this school and its fine educational staff speak for themselves. Close Quote

Open Quote Bully teachers and a bully principle. Teachers are not held to the same standards as the students. IB attributes are punctuated every day to students and students are not lead by example. Great teachers with a vision and creative teaching skills are squashed and intimidated. It use to be a great school but now a small empire has been built and if you do not fit in the box the principle has created, you are asked to leave. Bully teachers, apply here. You will be encouraged to suck the soul out of children. Close Quote
