Summary

Satellite Senior High School in Satellite Beach, FL, is a high-performing public high school serving 1,438 students in grades 9-12 within the Brevard school district, known for its strong academic track record and a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Satellite High stands out for its exceptional graduation rate of 98.0% (2024-2025), which significantly exceeds both the district (92.7%) and state (92.2%) averages, and is higher than many nearby schools like Eau Gallie High School (90.6%) and Rockledge Senior High School (92.9%). The school also boasts a low chronic absenteeism rate of 15.9%, far better than the state average of 31.4% and lower than peers like Viera High School (18.7%) and Melbourne Senior High School (20.7%). In specific subjects, Satellite excels with 92% proficiency in Biology 1 and 83% in US History, among the highest for comprehensive high schools in the area. However, the school faces a notable challenge in Algebra 1, where proficiency is only 38%—well below the district (61%) and state (63%) averages—though this is a common struggle for nearby schools like Viera (40%) and Melbourne (39%).

Satellite High is also highly cost-effective, spending $9,873 per student, which is less than many lower-performing schools such as Palm Bay Magnet Senior High School ($12,053) and Cocoa Beach Junior/Senior High School ($11,154). While its state ranking has slightly declined from the 90th percentile (5-star) in 2021-2022 to the 85th percentile (4-star) in 2025-2026, it remains a top choice for families seeking a stable, high-achieving environment. For context, specialized junior/senior high schools like Edgewood Junior/Senior High School and West Shore Junior/Senior High School achieve near-perfect scores but serve a different student population, highlighting Satellite’s strength as a traditional comprehensive school.

Open Quote The school has a great music program. Teachers so far are hit or miss, some good, some not at all, but the major concern with the school is the administration. The front office employees, especially the attendance person, seem like they can't do their jobs properly, and have bad attitudes towards the students and parents. The guidance department is another chaos, but the worst is the dean. He is rude and very unprofessional and doesn't follow up with student or parent concerns. Our only hope for this school is that the upcoming principal will be able to make significant improvements with the staff. Close Quote
