Summary

Palm Bay Preparatory Academy 6-12 is a small public school in Panama City, FL, serving just 203 students in grades 6 through 12 within the Bay district, and it has become a standout success story in the area.

This school has transformed dramatically in recent years, achieving its highest-ever state ranking in the 2025-2026 school year. Its academic performance is exceptional compared to nearby schools. For example, 10th-grade English Language Arts proficiency hit an impressive 100%, far surpassing the district average of 63% and outperforming strong peers like A. Crawford Mosley High School (70%). In Geometry, Palm Bay scored 81% proficient, compared to the district average of 53% and Mosley's 51%. The school also boasts a perfect 100% graduation rate for three of the last five years, a stark contrast to schools like Rosenwald High School (73.6%) and Central High School (64.1%). Chronic absenteeism is also notably low at 27%, much better than the district average of 35.3% and far below struggling peers like New Horizons Learning Center (86.2%).

While Palm Bay is the top-performing traditional public school in its immediate area, it is not quite at the elite level of The Collegiate School At Fsu Pc, which ranks in the 98th percentile. Still, Palm Bay's small size allows for more individualized attention, and its efficient use of resources—with per-student spending lower than many high-spending, low-performing schools—makes it a compelling option for families seeking a high-quality, personalized education in Panama City.

Open Quote It is a high B school with a very high parent/student approval rating. The students love to go to school and don't want to leave at the end of the day. They just got their charter extended for two years and are combining the middle and high schools at one location. The teachers are really great to the kids and they offer dual enrolled classes as well as internships. Great place for shy kids. Close Quote
