Summary

Forbes School is an elementary school located in Torrington, Connecticut, serving grades 4-5 with a total enrollment of 302 students. It is part of the Torrington School District, which is ranked 120 out of 156 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Forbes School's overall performance on standardized tests is generally below the state and district averages, the school stands out in its performance for Hispanic students, ranking among the top 25% of Connecticut elementary schools in this subgroup for the past three school years. The school also ranks highly for its English Language Learner (ELL) students, placing in the top 1-2 schools in the state for this subgroup in recent years. However, Forbes School has consistently higher chronic absenteeism rates compared to the state and district averages, ranging from 13.2% to 22.4% in recent years, and a high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with 60.65% to 71.52% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in recent years.

Interestingly, the nearby Torringford School and Vogel-Wetmore School, which serve younger grades (K-3), have similar performance and demographic profiles to Forbes School, suggesting a consistent pattern of challenges within the Torrington School District. In contrast, the nearby Goshen Center School and Harwinton Consolidated School, which are in different districts, have significantly higher student performance and lower rates of chronic absenteeism and free/reduced-price lunch eligibility.

Open Quote I do not believe Forbes school administration has been working with the students to have them learn. They have only been prepping them for CMT testing which is not the same as a normal curriculum.
I am very disappointed with our BOE and State of Education for not following through on complaints and concerns. Close Quote
