Open Quote Whinthrop has made big changes. In 2012 they switched over to being a magnet school. My son has attendees since the switch and we couldn't be happier. When he was in a local public school he was slightly behind. Not enough to need extra help, but far enough that as parents we were worried. He hated reading and struggled with it. We mad the switch to winthrop when he was entering the 2nd grade and he excelled! Now in 4th grade he's reading at a middle school level and has passed benchmark in all tests. While this school is a stem school(science, technology, engineering and Mathmatics) they so far beyond the learning he was getting at his last school. If a child needed help in a certain area, they will be moved to the group that gets the most intervention with a teacher. The staff is wonderful from the secretary, to the nurse to the dean. They are all welcoming and helpful. My son is challenged and pushed and has learned so much. Even with their extended hours, he never complains about going to school and the enrichment programs have been wonderful! Every month he's learning something new from someone in the community.
