Summary

Swansea Elementary School is a public elementary school in Denver, Colorado, serving 384 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the School District No. 1, which is ranked 76 out of 115 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Swansea Elementary School consistently performs significantly below the district and state averages in CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success) test scores for English Language Arts and Math across all grade levels. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 14% of Swansea students were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 41.9% for the district and 44.8% for the state. Similarly, only 10.7% of Swansea students were proficient or better in Math, compared to 32.9% for the district and 35.9% for the state. The school also has extremely high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 27.7% to 44.6% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the district and state averages. Additionally, Swansea Elementary School has a very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 86.2% to 90.96% over the past few years, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population.

When comparing Swansea Elementary School to the nearby schools within the same district, it becomes evident that Swansea is consistently one of the lowest-performing schools in the area. For example, Columbine Elementary School and Stedman Elementary School, which are both within a 2-mile radius of Swansea, significantly outperform Swansea in academic achievement, with much higher proficiency rates in ELA and Math. The school's relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 13.3 to 14.7 over the past few years, could be a potential asset, but the consistently poor academic performance suggests that additional support and resources may be needed to address the complex challenges facing the school and its students.

Open Quote This school is OUT OF CONTROL!!! The students are very disrespectful. Students ran and yelled in the hall. The more you asked them to be quiet in the hall the louder they were. Even one of the home room teachers was no help. She was even loud walking her class in the hall. The AP and principal DID NOT help. All they care is about getting the test scores higher. If they did something about discipline, then maybe the scores would be higher. They didn't even give me positive feedback from teaching and the growth that I was able to show. I'm a former teacher and it was hard to teach because of this. I'm happily going to another district and school where I was told by several people ,for example parents, and an AP at the near by high school that I will be happy and they don't put up with students acting like that and the Administration is VERY SUPPORTIVE.
