Summary

Hage Elementary is a K-5 public school serving about 505 students in San Diego's 92126 ZIP code, currently rated as a 3-star school in the middle tier of California elementary schools, though it has seen a decline from its previous 4-star status.

The school shows a clear strength in mathematics, where student proficiency exceeds both the San Diego Unified and state averages, particularly in 3rd grade. However, its overall academic ranking has fallen over the past several years, and it performs significantly better in math than in English Language Arts or science. A bright spot is a major improvement in chronic absenteeism, which has dropped sharply. The school spends more per student than many nearby schools, including higher-performing ones like Dingeman Elementary and Miramar Ranch Elementary.

Hage Elementary exists in an area with stark contrasts, surrounded by both struggling and highly successful schools. It performs better than some neighbors with similar challenges, like Walker Elementary, but lags behind top-tier schools in the region. Comparisons with schools in the Poway Unified district, such as Park Village Elementary, highlight broader district-level differences in performance. The data suggests the school has specific strengths to build on but faces challenges in reversing its overall academic trajectory.
