Summary

Sunnyslope High School is a public high school located in Phoenix, Arizona, serving 2,270 students in grades 9-12 as part of the Glendale Union High School District. This school has consistently ranked in the top 25% of Arizona high schools over the past decade, maintaining a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger and outperforming the district and state in academic achievement.

Sunnyslope High School's performance is particularly strong for certain student subgroups, such as Native American and White students, who rank in the top 25% and top 10% of Arizona high schools, respectively. The school also performs well for English Language Learner students, ranking in the top 10-20% of the state. However, the school's performance for Special Education and Low Socioeconomic Status students is relatively lower, ranking in the bottom 50% of Arizona high schools. This suggests that the school may need to address the needs of these student populations to maintain its overall high level of performance.

Compared to nearby schools, Washington High School and Cortez High School, Sunnyslope High School outperforms them in terms of statewide ranking, academic achievement, and graduation/dropout rates. However, the nearby charter schools, such as Cornerstone Charter School and ThrivePoint High School at Metro, perform significantly worse than Sunnyslope High School across various metrics.

Open Quote Students park where ever they choose in near by neighborhoods and school doesn't care Close Quote

Open Quote Teachers seem to care, academics are challenging enough, and the community of parents is wonderful. However, the school atmosphere is greatly affected by assistant principals on power trips who seem to enjoy humiliating kids and by football coaches who are verbally abusive bullies. How does a school fight bullying when those in charge are the worst offenders? Sunnyslope needs to keep its leaders in check. Close Quote

Open Quote I've sent 3 children to Sunnyslope (on variance out of Paradise Valley), best decision ever. Glendale Union is very well organized and knows how to deliver a quality education to ALL students. It's easy to reach your child's teachers, administrators are approachable. Student involvement is encouraged. Add to that high expectations for students and behavior accountability. Close Quote
