New World Educational Center

Public, Charter, Alternative Grades K-12
Summary

New World Educational Center is a public charter school in Phoenix, Arizona that serves 176 students from kindergarten through 12th grade, with a predominantly Hispanic student population.

While New World Educational Center has maintained a 0% dropout rate over the past 5 years, which is significantly better than the state average, the school's academic performance has been a challenge. Its test scores in English Language Arts and Mathematics are 10-15 percentage points below the state averages, and the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch has increased from 34% to 47% in the past year, indicating a higher proportion of students from low-income families. Compared to nearby charter schools like Great Hearts Academies - Archway Veritas and Great Hearts Academies - Maryvale Prep, which have significantly higher test scores, New World Educational Center's academic performance lags behind.

However, New World Educational Center's student population is more racially diverse compared to the nearby charter schools, which tend to have a higher percentage of White students. The school's racial makeup is more representative of the overall student population in the Phoenix area, which is predominantly Hispanic. Additionally, New World Educational Center's spending per student ($8,687 in 2018-2019) is lower than the nearby charter schools, which range from $10,288 to $12,201 per student. Addressing the academic gaps and supporting the unique needs of the school's diverse student population should be a priority for the school's leadership and the broader community.

Open Quote This school has been excellent. My daughter has attended this school since kindergarten; she is now in 8th grade. The teachers and administration have been wonderful to work with as they address any issues promptly. They also are very caring and skilled. The bond that the children have with one another is not likely seen at many schools making it a fun and safe school environment. Close Quote
