Summary

Cooper Elementary School in Bella Vista, AR, is a high-performing K-4 school within the top-ranked Bentonville School District, serving 628 students and consistently earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger for nine of the last ten years.

Cooper’s standout strength is its exceptional performance in Math and Science, where it significantly exceeds both district and state averages. For example, 76.3% of students are proficient in Math, compared to the state average of 44.1%. The school shows a remarkable "Cooper Effect" in 4th grade, where students dramatically accelerate: 4th-grade Math proficiency hits 84%, and Science reaches 79.3%, far outpacing nearby schools like Osage Creek Elementary School and Centerton Gamble Elementary, where 4th-grade scores often drop. While Cooper excels in STEM, its English Language Arts proficiency (59.7%) falls slightly below the district average, creating a clear STEM-focused profile. This contrasts with Elm Tree Elementary School, which excels across all subjects, including a 70.6% ELA proficiency. Cooper also stands out for its efficiency, spending $10,656 per student—significantly less than Thomas Jefferson Elementary School ($18,166) and Sugar Creek Elementary School ($17,590)—while achieving higher Math and Science scores.

Cooper serves a relatively affluent student body, with only 19.43% eligible for free or reduced lunch, a figure that has been decreasing. While it is a top-tier school, it is not the highest-ranked in its immediate area; Apple Glen Elementary School (ranked 3rd) and Elm Tree (ranked 8th) consistently outperform it across all subjects. However, Cooper’s 4th-grade Math score (84%) is competitive with Apple Glen’s (84.8%), showing its best students are on par with the district’s elite. For families prioritizing STEM education in a traditional public school, Cooper offers a compelling value proposition with strong academic growth and efficient resource use.

Open Quote The complete lack of communication by the teaching staff, coupled with their apparent inability to ensure the children ride the correct bus home, cancels out how the school may look on paper. Their focus is decidedly on the numbers, rather than on the students who comprise those numbers. Close Quote

Open Quote Mr. Young the principal at Cooper is one of the best. He takes the time out of his busy schedule to talk with parents and children of all ages and is a great parent himself. Wonderful school, Wonderful Principal, and a Wonderful Teacher have been a great way to enjoy Kindergarten for our child. Close Quote

Open Quote My granddaughter has excelled in Kindergarten at Cooper. She feels safe and cared for. The atmosphere is fun and she is always excited to tell us about her day. The teacher keeps us informed almost daily on class activities and scheduled events and keeps the children interested by having a variety of fun "stuff" and daily rewards. She loves and enjoys all of her teachers and excels in all of her classes. She jumps out of bed each morning anxious to get to school. I was impressed when I walked into the school the first time and saw posters everywhere stating a zero tolerance for bullying which, in my opinion, destroys the victims confidence and spirit.
