Open Quote I agree that there is favoritism, but that's life. I have two kids there now and it is very academic. The work load is almost too much if you want your kids to balance outside activities. The courses offered are somewhat limited by the size of the school. We have been pleased with the high school, esp. with the instructors. I am also disappointed with the colleges the students attend; however, many students get in private colleges from all over the country and many choose not to go. Their college placement adviser, Rusty Allen, is the school's largest asset. He is worth his weight in gold as your kids get older. He really knows the students and his assessment of their personalities matching certain schools is spot on. I also agree with the previous review of the "sterile" environment. Very "cookie-cutter" student body and the administration does not promote individualism. Overall, very happy with the education and the teachers and would send my kids here again. Close Quote

Open Quote Randolph is a great school academically. The headmaster Dr. Hulsey is truly dedicated to excellence in academics, arts, and athletics. Randolph hired him from the Norfolk Academy in Virginia, and he has an outstanding resume of educational accomplishments.

The faculty at Randolph is outstanding, including 95% with advanced degrees in the Upper School. Class sizes are small and the facilities are truly excellent with the new Upper School open. You won't find higher test scores on the ACT, SAT, or AP at any other school in the area. Close Quote

Open Quote I have had 2 kids attend Randolph. This is a very challenging academic school. Good solid curriculum with sound teachers in general. The negatives are that the school displays favoritism towards the "big donors" and the well connected. Also, the school is somewhat sterile and does not seem to truly broaden the kids horizons as it should. Just look at the colleges that are chosen. Alabama, Auburn, several small private schools in the area and a few go to Vanderbilt. What about the rest of the world? And the honor system is considered a joke by most of the students. Again, the well connected are protected. And everyone knows this. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
