As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Great school and teachers. They work very hard to keep the kids engaged. I have 3 kids going to this school and they are always excited to go there. Close Quote

Open Quote I can't believe THAT principal is still at SHE. Who lets her stay there that long to micro manager the poor staff members. From what I understand many staff and parents are ready for a change. Come on superintendent make a change. Staff people are afraid to speak up. The ones that did speak up she knew how to lie and get rid of them! Close Quote

Open Quote Regarding the email about students not taking the MSP is false information. You can read all the information year after year to figure that out. A better explanation in my opinion is an an ineffective principal who micro manages her staff. She has gotten rid of veteran staff and the new young staff don't have those veteran staff to learn from. If you look over the school board minutes from years past you will see how many staff have left SHE. Little Cedars did not have to take staff that did not want to be moved. There was an over abundance of staff that volunteered to leave. Check out how many staff retired early. Check out how many staff members that did not come back from maternity leave. The principal has been at SHE far to many years. Why does that happen? I have heard many district staff say negative things lately about how bad the district has become. Being involved for over 30 years I see it too.

A principal can't grow if she does not listen and support her staff. The district definitely needs to make some major changes in leadership at Seattle Hill. Close Quote

Open Quote Seatttle Hill ranks 975 of 1003 elementary schools in the state of WA. Ranking change of 599 points from 2011 to 2012. Why? Because a portion of the parent group refused to have their children take the MSP (state mandated test) to protest state budget cuts. By doing so, the entire school FAILED TO MAKE PROGRESS. Testing is required by state and fed law. This protest lacked common sense, integrity, and responsible behavior. Most parents flock to academically PROGRESIVE schools, strengthening community bonds and enhancing school culture. Seattle Hill must be an anomoly. It has great kids, effective teachers and decent specialized programs. What it lacks is a UNIFIED parent support base. Teachers are doing their best to TEACH, students are LEARNING, but MSP Opt-Out parent actions affected the entire school NEGATIVELY. This is NOT support, this is APATHY. Over time Seattle Hill has demonstrated academic PROGRESSION via district/state mandated assessments despite budget cuts. Suggestion: Define and focus educational goals, further develop parent support activities to assist students/teachers perhaps w/afterschool activities/tutoring, and EDUCATE parents about the purpose and value of “instruction and assessment”. What will it take to unify this school community? Effective leadership. No one is arguing fully funded education, it is the LAW.. Since our schools are funded by taxpayers and the school board is elected to represent the public's interest-Snohomish School Board ought to take heed. It is in everyone’s best interest to value student learning with performance standards. Common Core Standards will be costly, and important. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
