Summary

Renton Park Elementary School is a public K-5 school serving 393 students in the Renton School District, which faces significant academic challenges with its current state ranking in the 16th percentile.

The school's academic performance, with roughly 30% of students proficient in core subjects, is below district and state averages and notably lower than many nearby schools. For example, Talbot Hill Elementary in the same district and Ridgewood Elementary in the neighboring Kent School District show significantly higher proficiency rates. Renton Park serves a high-need population, with over 65% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, a rate higher than most comparable schools in its own district like Cascade Elementary.

Despite spending more per student than several higher-performing neighboring schools, outcomes have lagged, though recent data shows a promising improvement in its overall ranking from the 6th to the 16th percentile. The school's performance varies greatly by grade, with fourth-grade scores being particularly low, indicating potential areas for targeted support. When compared to a school with very similar demographics like Impact | Black River Elementary, Renton Park performs slightly better academically, suggesting the challenges of serving its student population are complex but not insurmountable.

Open Quote Verbal, and physical abuse by playground staff is the norm here. Principal is "new", and not very helpful in addressing any issue.
15 minutes for students to eat each day before being moved outside means thousands of dollars in wasted food.
This in turn leads to hungry students who can't focus as well as they would had they actually eaten.
When parents complain, the staff act concerned. However, no changes are ever made. Close Quote
