Summary

Lakewood Middle School is a public school serving 668 students in grades 6-8 within the Lakewood School District in Marysville, WA, a district that ranks in the lower quarter of the state.

Academically, the school faces challenges, with student proficiency in English, Math, and Science below the Washington state average; however, its Science scores are a relative strength and are notably higher than some nearby schools like Marysville Middle School. Performance has declined over the past decade, and the school serves a population with significant economic need, with about half of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. There is considerable variation in how different student groups perform, and interestingly, male students currently outperform female students at the school, which is an uncommon pattern.

When compared to other middle schools in the area, there is a wide range of performance. Schools like Port Susan Middle School and North Lake Middle School achieve much higher academic results, while others like Totem Middle School rank lower. This contrast shows that high achievement is possible in the region and suggests that factors beyond just funding, such as teaching methods or school programs, are crucial for student success.

Open Quote Of your child is a star athlete, straight A student then this is the school for you, but if your child has any type of learning disabilities, needs 504 plan, or not the greatest player on the team I would strongly recommend another school if it's an option for you. The teachers could care less about children having different learning styles, or maybe needing a little extra attention... they teach their way and ur your child doesn't get it, well then they are S.O.L. The principal is an absolute joke, as well as the assistant principal. They pick and chooses who they are going to dress code, discipline, or even get too know. Once your child is on their radar, its game over. They will be singled out, punished more harshly, and not protected when bullied from students or staff members. Out of all the teachers/staff members my child has dealt with only one teacher has actually gave a crap about encouraging her and helping her with her learning disabilities. Mr. Detrick has went out of his way too make her feel like an actual human being who has potential in this world. Unfortunately I cant say that for any other teachers it staff members. My child actually had a teacher tell her while during a class discussion about what they wanted too be when they grow up that "school isn't really for you, you would not do well at a university, maybe you could become a hairdresser or something that allows minimal schooling". My child had said her dream is to become a detective or police officer... what kind of teacher intentionally discourages a child from his or her dream. Their job is too build them up and encourage, not make them feel worthless and like their learning disabilities are going too hold them back in life. Close Quote
