I would not send my dog to this school. My child had a HORRIBLE experience with bullying.
The school year started off on a positive note, however that did not last long. As the school year progressed, my child started coming home with multiple bruises. I later found out that another child had been physically harming my child. When I brought it up to the teacher, the teacher let me know that the children had been in counseling due to disagreements, but physical harm was never discussed. I was alarmed – the school had NEVER contacted me to let me know that my child was seeing the counselor. I brought up the issue to the principal, who brushed me off (via email – to this day, she has never bothered to meet with me face to face). The principal let me know that she was aware the children were in counseling, but was told it was my child who was inflicting physical harm. Being that my child is quite timid, I couldn’t imagine this being the case. The teacher assured me that the children would be separated and she would keep an eye on them.
The bullying continued throughout the year, my child being kicked and shoved on the playground and in music. Again, I brought it up to the teacher, who said that she didn’t see anything, but promised to keep an eye on them. Towards the end of the year, my child begrudgingly told me that two students put hand sanitizer in a snack, and tricked my child into eating it. When my child recoiled, the students insisted nothing was wrong and said my child should eat it anyway. This is not an elementary school prank, this sounds like a college hazing! The principal (still refusing to meet with me in person) assured me the children involved would be punished and never shared with me what the “punishment” was. The teacher said she would continue watching the students.
After the attempted poisoning, I volunteered a few times at the school, so that I could see what actions were being taken. The main bullying student was still approaching my child, which caused me to intervene at least twice. Another time, I witnessed the teacher allowing the children to STILL work together. My child even asked her, “I thought we should be separated,” To which the teacher replied (in front of me), “Oh, I am sure you guys are grown enough to get along and can work it out.” Shocked, I asked the teacher why she would let them work together after the terrible year my child had been having. The teacher replied, “They seem to be getting along fine, and I would like to observe them to see how they do.” My child is not a science experiment! Safety is a serious issue and my child was not treated as such. Needless to say my child will NOT be returning to this school. Close Quote
