As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The Madrona parents of teacher, parents and kids is amazaing. The non-graded system isn't for everyone. (kids still get grades, but classrooms look different) Look carefully at the concept of learning centers vs. classrooms. From a learning prospective it looks different from a normal classroom, however once you are in it and see how it really works you will understand why this is such an effective learning system. Simply put, instead of teaching to the lowest level student, teachers can "teach up" and each student is taught to their maximum potential. Kids are not held back in certain subjects just because of age/grade, they excel to their maximum potential in that subject and kids don't advance in subjects just because the rest of the class does. They master each level before moving to the next. The strong emphsis on mastering the foundation and building from them really works.

The school also has a strong emphsis on character - equiping the kids intellectually and relationally. Kids who come from this program tend to be highly successful in high school and beyond. It really does work.

And the community of parents and teachers really makes the difference. Over 50% of parents volunteer in some way - help in the classroom, school activities, enrichment programs, fundraising, etc. As a parent I not only know my children's friends, I know their parents. This is huge. Close Quote

Open Quote They need to change their principle. I volunteer a lot in school but I don't even know what does the principle looks like. Never see her greet with kids in the morning or end of school. Don't even think about if she has any connection with the kids at the school. And their anti bully system is only on the paper. It does not apply into students life, they believe their kids knows the bully system but I have saw couple bully at school while volunteering and school does nothing about it. Madrona's ranking has dropped year by year. I really think the school need better leadership and should focus more about students personal life to help students build better personality. Improvement is needed in many ways!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
