Summary

Green Run High is a public high school located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, serving 1,444 students in grades 9-12. It is part of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools district, which is ranked 25th out of 129 school districts in the state and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Green Run High has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Virginia high schools over the past decade, it performs relatively well for Hispanic students, ranking in the top 25% of state high schools for this subgroup. However, the school struggles with Asian and White student performance, ranking in the bottom 25% for these groups. Green Run High also has lower rankings for military-connected and low socioeconomic status students compared to other student groups. The school's graduation rate has fluctuated between 91.9% and 96.0%, and its dropout rate has ranged from 1.6% to 5.3% in recent years.

Interestingly, Green Run Collegiate, a public charter high school located directly adjacent to Green Run High, consistently outperforms the traditional high school on various metrics, including statewide rankings, test scores, and graduation rates, despite serving a similar demographic of students. This proximity to higher-performing schools, as well as Virginia Beach City Public Schools' overall strong district ranking, may contribute to the challenges faced by Green Run High.

Open Quote GRHS has the most caring and amazing teachers! My daughter just graduated with Honors and in the top 20 of her class. They have a strong Leadership program which the staff and teachers are involved in. My daughter still keeps in touch with a few of her teachers and they have been a great support system for her first year at East Carolina University. My son is currently in the 9th grade and excelling in the exclusive iLab program. My husband and enjoy being involved with the PTSA and getting to know other parents, GRHS staff and teachers! Open Quote I am parent to four children. Two have graduated and gone on to VCU and my third is graduating this year. My fourth is in 9th grade. I serve on our PTSA and love to be involved. The Stallion family is diverse and accepting. I love the faculty and staff. They are dedicated and willing to help if you ever need them. I hope to cultivate a more involved parent, community atmosphere. As with anything, you get back what you put into it. Many of us in this community work hard to grow current and future leaders.
