As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Obviously everyone has their own opinion of judging this school. Sometimes you have to chew the meat and spit out the bones! Overall, this is a great school, you're going to have imperfections wherever you attend. My daughter has excelled wonderfully at Linwood Holton, she's a Scholar student who loves the atmosphere. Yes, there have been some minor situations that where taken care of because of positive communication. You can not expect everything to be perfect, it's just not going to happen. As for the parents...
Some of the parents are holier then thou, and they seem to think their children are as well. If a teacher or staff member gives constructive criticism, then they're being rude and unprofessional. The teachers aren't perfect and neither are the children, but they are wonderful kids compared to some I've seen. Contrary to what some may say, try it for yourself. Please, just don't walk around with your heart on your sleeve... Close Quote

Open Quote We took our 2nd grader out of this school because it had gone downhill. Our child attended Linwood Holton from K-1 and both her teachers were excellent. However, this year, the second grade teachers are terrible. They are incredibly harsh with the kids and they have no idea how to teach. Most of them wanted to be something else and are teaching by default. They just yell and scream all day because the kids talk quietly amongst themselves between lessons. These are good kids and very sweet. They don't deserve this. The teachers all make them run laps outside during recess and the kids don't get any free play. We pulled our daughter because her teacher was such a control freak she called me at seven o'clock AT NIGHT to settle some kind of personal situation with me and was screaming at the top of her lungs. She had taken a perfectly good spelling test of our daughters, all words spelled correctly, and screamed at her because the words weren't laid out on the page exactly the way she wanted. Our daughter had nightmares for weeks thinking this awful woman would then show up at our home and scream at her.

When we took our daughter out the principal couldn't care less. Our daughter was a scholar roll student who had never been in trouble. What does this tell you?

Never again. Close Quote

Open Quote This school is just like all the Richmond Public School Systems, not staffed properly with ratio of teachers in the classroom per student. The person who wrote the review before mine must not understand fully understand the public school system but rather a private institution. So if this school is so great Ivy League grandparent why don't you come teach and help out. People that live in the area this school is districted in are educated parents and most with BA/BS and MA/MS degrees. The students at this school should be showing better overall scores. Open Quote Yes, both of my grandaughters attend this school, their parents have made an effort to assure that they get the best posssible education. I have been well pleased with the school, the staff, principal, and how they are involved, and encourage the children. I have never been in the building when it was not clean, and that every staff member that passed me did not give a warm greeting. My two grandaughters are on honor roll and very active in their school. They love their school, and express school spirit. My congrat. to the school, staff, principal and parents, but most of all to the students. God Bless Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
