As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My experience with this school is that it is very disorganized. Registration is a nightmare and a waste of time to do it early. Lack of communication from staff to parents is terrible. You can't meet with counselors if there is a problem within a timely manner and most of the time they don't have answers to your problems. My daughter was involved with the cheer program and it was a hot mess the entire time. The current coach is not in it for the team and is very immature when dealing with people in general. I am glad there are choices out there but this one isn't a positive one. Close Quote

Open Quote I am finishing up my freshman year at Summit, and I am very impressed with everything Summit has to offer, including the extracurricular activities, teacher skill and cooperation with students, and fellow student behavior and community.

However, I firmly believe that this school may not be for everyone. Summit does have a lot of extracurricular activities for its size, but it still does not match up with what a larger high school has to offer. I am not bothered by this, as every activity available is well developed and easy to participate in.

Also, this school is difficult. Academics are rigorous, and it seems like my grades have gone down a little because of the difficulty. Again, I have grown to like this as well, as I enjoy the challenge of a high-level class being available to me as a freshman.

Third, this high school is pretty strict. Strict dress code policies are the most obvious indicator. Higher student expectations for performance and participation have angered some around me. Yet again, I like this. Students do tend to respond positively to this pressure, and this has lead to a student community that is closer and more involved than many others out there.

Overall, ensure that you know what you are getting into before you enroll. If you are prepared to take on some of the unique challenges that Summit offers, you should have a pretty good time here. Close Quote

Open Quote I went to Summit Academy for five years (high school - four years). I was very impressed with the junior high - very organized, the teachers tried to help their students succeed, and there were many classes/electives to choose from. I was impressed with the high school for the first two years, but during my junior year, many classes were removed/I did not get certain classes I wanted. True, Summit Academy is a small high school, but I have been to smaller schools that had more to offer. I understand teachers left because there was a lack of funding for certain programs. The school was focused highly on academics and student interests, but now the school has now shifted its focus on sports. The arts programs hardly have any funding. This has unfortunately gone down due to teacher quality/student quality. There are still several teachers at the school who are outstanding.
I started at Summit Academy with big expectations. During my 8th grade year, they promised an International Baccalaureate program, various student organizations (several were started, but they ended up eliminating these due to the lack of student interest, organization, and promotion. I was on the Math Team, Peer Leadership Team, Spirit Committee, National Honor Society (we still have it, but it was not organized properly in the 2014-2015 year), and community service projects (very few of these, but they were mainly part of groups).
Another complaint I have is that the counselors are disorganized. Our first two counselors had great organization skills and helped students as much as possible. For example, I have a classmate who requested transcripts to be sent to several universities, but they were never sent until January (December 1 was the due date), which prevented her from applying for scholarships. The counselors also lost several diplomas, including mine.
Each year, I did enjoy the small class sizes and the exchange students who came.
Overall, I think Summit Academy is a great school, except for the high school. Although it is new, I have seen newer and smaller high schools thrive more. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
