As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I would give this school and district a 0 if I could. The students run the school, and APs refuse to help in discipline and put it back on the teachers to more or less parent these kids. Drugs and fights are rampant here and it is not safe. Principals hide in their offices all day, the cops are nowhere to be found. Teacher turnover is super high and our students are mentally and academically at a 6th grade level at best. No funding to anything that isn’t sports. DO NOT WORK HERE DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE Close Quote

Open Quote The teachers. I haven't had as many unpleasant experiences with the other staff as I've had with teachers. For one, a good amount of the teachers rotate year to year (probably because of the way they're treated by both their students and their superiors)- meaning there are always new teachers. New teachers are, in fact, new to teaching, and therefore don't really have the curriculum for the class planned for the year, nor do they have a grasp on how to manage a high school classroom. The classes led by the new teachers tend to be more unruly, on account of being new to the whole teaching thing. Having unruly classes mean that the teacher has to spend more time disciplining (if they even try anymore) than actually instructing. I've had several classes with this issue. Another problem with the teachers is the lack of them- or, at least, the lack of teachers with any knowledge of what they're teaching. I had a Pre-AP biology class where the teacher was trained in physics- and was intent on teaching it too. We went the first four weeks or so learning the wrong thing- then, when the said teacher "retired", we were stuck without a teacher. By the time we got at least a permanent substitute, the Pre-AP classes were behind the level. I feel like HISD could erase this issue if they could appreciate the teachers more, so they wouldn't leave every few years. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
