As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We have been very happy with the quality of education at the school. Note: It’s heavy on academics and light on formal arts — your kids will have a fair number of assignments involving arts & crafts, but if you want to go much further beyond that, you’ll need to find the right extracurriculars. Good accommodation for learning disabilities, ADHD and speech issues. The school has a new principal who seems very promising so far. Our kids enjoy WUES and we enjoy seeing their classmates frequently around the neighborhood. Close Quote

Open Quote Unfortunately the quality of this school has deteriorated over the years. Not all but many of the teaching staff use reprimanding methods that hinder children to thrive. Very disturbing. Close Quote

Open Quote Very sad, because this is our neighborhoold school and we heard so many wonderful stories about it. Unfortunatly, things always look better from the outside.

We pulled out our child in 2nd Grade and sent her to a Private School.
This school is extremely overrated. The Principal wont EVER return phone calls, and guides the school as a "Good Old Big Boy" with his two assistants who are bullying children and abuse Bus drivers and even parents.
The curriculum offers music and art, but is basically none existing. Our child came home with 2 drawings the whole school year in 1st Grade. Music is lead by an older teacher who never exposes the children to any type of musical instrument or classical music.
Children miss recess and snack on a regular basis, because the teachers have to meet certain school quotas and tests. Children are taught 3 grade level material in 1st Grade. Yes, it is wonderful that your child is pushed, but there comes I point where you have to ask what it does to your child's self-esteem being always pushed without recess and snacks.
Many wonderful teachers, yet others who are bullying, teasing and treating kids disrespectfully. If you dare to complain, you will 1. most likely not hear from the Principal or anyone else 2. be black mailed and your child assigned to a new teacher and/or to an overcrowded class.
Talk to a variety of people to make certain that this is the right school for your child.
It was not for us!!!!!! Our child is thriving in her new school and not once mentioned West University Elementary.
Year 2010 - Just imagine what kind of school this is when they assign a new teacher in Kindergarten 26 children??????? Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
