Summary

Yes Prep - Gulfton is a public charter high school serving grades 6-12 in Houston, Texas, with an enrollment of 1,045 students. This school is part of the Yes Prep Public Schools Inc. district, which is ranked 369 out of 961 districts in the state.

Yes Prep - Gulfton has consistently maintained high 4-year graduation rates, ranging from 86.9% to 94.1% over the past 5 years, significantly higher than the nearby public high schools, which have 4-year graduation rates around 83%. The school also has very low dropout rates, ranging from 0.8% to 1.7%, much lower than the nearby public high schools, which have dropout rates around 3.5%. Additionally, Yes Prep - Gulfton students generally outperform their peers in the district and the state of Texas on STAAR/EOC assessments, particularly in Algebra I, Biology, English II Reading, and U.S. History.

While Yes Prep - Gulfton serves a high-needs population, with 94-97% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, the school has a strong focus on equity and supporting the unique needs of its diverse student population. This is evident in the school's ability to help traditionally underserved student subgroups, such as African American and English Language Learner students, excel academically. However, the school's overall statewide ranking has fluctuated over the years, suggesting it may face some challenges in maintaining consistent, high-level performance across all metrics. When compared to the nearby public high schools, Yes Prep - Gulfton generally outperforms them, but some of the nearby magnet schools, such as Bellaire High School, also demonstrate strong academic performance.

Open Quote The school is a great school. The motto is "What Ever it Takes." The teachers and staff spend time with the children to help them to reach thier full potential while challenging them for growth. They take the time to listen to the children and provide assistance where it is needed. They spend real time with the children, showing them positive aspects of the world around them. Yes stands for Youth Engaged in Service, for which they do on a regular basis. The activities help them to develope skills and mindsets for the real world. I recommend the school to any parent who is willing to put in the time for thier child or children's education. Yes does their part... Close Quote
