Summary

Marvine Elementary School is a public elementary school in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, serving grades PK-5 with 287 students. The school is part of the Bethlehem Area School District, which is ranked 426 out of 606 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Marvine Elementary consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Pennsylvania elementary schools, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's proficiency rates in PSSA Math and English Language Arts are significantly lower than the district and state averages across all grade levels. However, the school has a relatively high per-student spending of around $24,000 and a low student-teacher ratio ranging from 10.9 to 13 students per teacher. When compared to other nearby schools in the Bethlehem Area School District, such as Calypso Elementary, Spring Garden Elementary, and Miller Heights Elementary, Marvine Elementary's academic performance is an outlier, with much lower proficiency rates.

The high percentage of students from low-income backgrounds, over 90% of whom qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, may be a significant factor in Marvine Elementary's academic challenges. While the school's Hispanic students perform better than the overall student population, they still lag behind the state average. The school's low-income and disabled students also struggle, ranking in the bottom quartile of Pennsylvania elementary schools for these subgroups. Addressing the needs of Marvine Elementary's student population, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, should be a top priority for the Bethlehem Area School District.

Open Quote The teachers are very prepared for the kids. Always nice clean classrooms with a lot of ideas to help the kids with their teachings. My daughter enjoys her class and when she needed additional assistance the school immediately made sure she got it. She is in an additional class for speech therapy. Very upbeat school. Close Quote
