As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have had three children attend Van Buren Elementary school, and overall I would rate them as a "picky average". I use this unique term due to the schools abundance of extra help for struggling students and unimpressive results. This ranks Van Buren slightly below average as the attempts to help often times seem misguided and counter productive to student success.

Van Buren employs an "intervention" type of assistance, for students that are struggling or for students that have had a sibling that struggled in Van Buren. As a part of this "intervention" the counselor is called in and the child extensively interviewed, in an attempt to "rule out" a problem in the home. If the student has a visual or hearing impairment then irregardless of the date of a last exam the student must provide doctors forms. To the parent and student on the receiving end of this type of help it often feels as if they are guilty of something, the school just isn't sure quiet what yet. To other's it appears that the school is simply searching for a way to write off low test scores, either way, it does not flatter the reputation of Van Buren Elementary.

The extensive help imposed upon students and parents of Van Buren elementary never seems to garner any real results, outside of students and parents alike fearing notice. I am sure that from the schools stand point, with narrowly escaping closure in 2012, anything that they can do to up their test results is positive.

I can simply say that as a parent, I have not had a positive experience with Van Buren Elementary. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
