Open Quote HEKETI COMMUNITY CHARTER SCHOOL 405 CONCORD AVENUE
This charter school is the worse charter school the Bronx has ever created. My kids deserve better. Everyone who is a parent and loves their kids want better for them. I took my kids out of public school hoping they will get the attention they need. Their grades were good, but I wanted a smaller school for my kids. I was so disappointed because their grades dropped, their teachers were unprofessional, and the principal just looks away. One of my kid's teacher talk bad about other kids, other teachers, and parents to me on parent teacher night. All I wanted to do was talk about how my kid was doing. Overall the school is a low performing school. I wanted to give the school a shot for my kids because it was in the neighborhood and one of the teachers told me it was a school centered around community. What a joke!! My kids were teased and bullied, called out of their names every single day. The teachers did nothing about it. They protected the bullies and the teasing continued. Teachers keep leaving in the middle of the school year. So many teachers leave Heketi and my kids don't do well. The school is disorganized because they never send me information through the email. I don't get letters from the school about trips and events. I always here about things at the last minute. My kids wanted to go on a trip and could not go because no one told me and the teacher always yells at my kid and punish them. My kids did not have behavior problems before they came to Heketi. Overall this is not a school I would tell any parent to send their kids to. I am a working and single parent who is so disgusted with this school and I will not send my kids there next year. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
