As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The principal looks miserable and all she does is scream at parents in the morning. She doesn't greet and doesn't smile at all. Some teachers are great, and some just give them busy work with a lot of print outs. I've read good reviews on other websites, and which is the reason why I chose this school for my kids, but now that I look back- the latest reviews on the other websites are from 2013. I don't know what happened between then and now, but the school is not doing well. Close Quote

Open Quote Please do not send your child to P.S. 209. There are so many other great schools in Whitestone and Bayside. The principal and the teachers are set in their ways. They do not want to hear anything, and will not even hear suggestions. The school is outdated. Even when you walk into the building, everything is so old. Other schools in the area have residency programs, STEM programs and the curriculum is up to date. The only thing that makes the school great is the PTA and the amazing board members who care about the children. Close Quote

Open Quote Test scores do not show the whole picture. THe administration run by the principal is horrible. Parents are not listened to. The principal is condescending and hides major concern including bullying. At one point the whole PTA quit because if you were on the PTA it was known that the principal would retaliate against your child since she did not want anyone telling her how to run her school. The reason this school continues to get good ratings is due to the neighborhood of active parents and a superintendent who is great friends with the principal on the outside. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
