As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I am a past student at Medgar Evers College Prep School and I attended the middle and high school. Honestly speaking, the middle school is pretty good - by the end of middle school, you child will have already and passed several regents exams and is fully prepared for Advanced Placement classes, which the school offers. However, I struggle to find a word to describe the teachers. In my day, the teachers openly cursed, yelled at, belittled, and straight up embarrassed the students by talking about their financial status, grades, home life, and appearance. But, there are some good ones as well. For the highschool, things are a little different. Because the school brings in new students from other schools and blends them with students who have been attending the school for three years already, things are tense. The students often do not get along and the school makes no effort to help them get along. In addition, the school seems to only care if you are on the track team, super smart, or popular - other than that, they DO NOT care about you. In addition, the school compares the two groups of students over and over again, publically and privately. The classes are okay, but certain teachers do not care, cannot handle the class, or remained unbothered. I have heard many, many teachers call students "stupid", "failures", "nobodies", and many other negative terms amongst themselves or in the presence of the students. The homophobia is this school is also absolutely astonishing and staff has been known to bully students who are known to be part of the LGBTQIA+. In addition, I maintain the fact that yes, there is no gym or auditorium. They only have a cafeteria, affectionately called the "cafegymatorium" by the students and staff. It has been known to attract rats and roaches, but so does every public school. Ultimately, good luck if you are sending your child to this school or are planning to attend in the near future.

P.S. The school is also very famous for covering up issues such as assault, suicide, and inappropriate relationships, so do your research and talk to the past students. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
