As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote PS33 is a gem! The teachers are phenomenal, and what makes them even better is the way they come together as a team to make sure the teaching is top notch.
It is true that there has been some issues with some parents not liking the new principal, Cindy Wang. But, in my 4 years at the school, I have seen a strong leader who has stayed firm regarding the changes she wants to make. Many of the changes were not welcomed at first, but now parents are starting to see the fruits, and are starting to warm up to Cindy. More than anything, Cindy has brought the community together, which before, under the past principal, was completely segregated.
The parent coordinator is so wonderful and helpful, and a great resource.
The parent community is the BEST!!! Close Quote

Open Quote My children have thrived at PS 33. The teachers are the best in the city, and the parent community is extremely tight. Plus, the school size is great -- two G&T, two gen-ed per grade. Love it there! Close Quote

Open Quote PS33 is a wonderful school with very strong, rigorous academics. The parent community is very involved, and the PTA raises a lot of money that support wonderful programs for the school, such as robotics, and incredible arts and music programs. Teachers are absolutely outstanding! There has been a learning curve with the new principal, since she did bring in a few changes.. she has certainly managed to integrate the Gen Ed and G&T much more (which some parents don't like), and her main goal is to build a strong community! :) Close Quote

Open Quote Has become a very violent school under the new principal. Lots of bullying—and now the kids who are bullied are pulled out of class to play with the bullies (who then pound the living daylights out of them.) Also a lot of the awesome experienced teachers have left. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
