As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Principal Dawn Gustafson in the elementary campus leaves a lot to be desired. I asked her to handle a situation involving my child and a teacher in February- it was swept under the rug and never mentioned again. Now she insists that my child is lying about an incident at school and gave him a four day suspension. My child is in second grade. I am thoroughly disappointed in the way my child has been treated. I do not plan to send him back next year, even though he really does want to go back. I don't feel it is the right place for him. Close Quote

Open Quote Those who do not like the school are generally clueless as to it's methods. I have been with this school since it opened over 10 years ago. My daughter went from not liking to learn to having a tenacity to find facts! She is taught to think outside the box and any issues with other girls (typical jr. high) are SWIFTLY dealt with because the school is too small to tolerate mean kids! Children are taught to stick up for one another and bullies will NOT get a chance to flourish here! Safety is key in this nasty city, but safety and learning is the ultimate combination. Your kid CANNOT learn in a school when they feel threatened and that is what MOST of Las Vegas is! Being a project based school with small class rooms also KEEPS YOUR CHILD SAFE so they can concentrate on learning! Any child will have to learn and be responsible or they will not make it here. Parental involvement is key. THIS IS NOT a school TO BABYSIT your kid! You can even help in the class! ANY GRADE!!!! EK Academy is about a year ahead than public schools in learning. Parents and children are the main force behind the school, not someone sitting "on the board."

The SCHOOL WILL work with ALL kids.... they will tutor and try tooth and nail to help any child, but at the end if a child is disruptive and keeps others from learning, they will eventually have to leave. This will NOT happen in regular public school. This school has individualized teaching. Not for the parent who wants their kids TALKED AT, but for the parent who wants their kids to be independent and learn! I have seen friends kids who HATE their typical Las Vegas Public School and came to LOVE learning and school once they were in E.K. Academy. It is sort of like Montessori in that each child is tested and PUT IN THE CLASS LEVEL of work they are at! So your 3rd grader who is excelling in math is NOT STUCK in 3rd grade math! What a concept! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
