As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Grades are not posted timely (35+ days), the school is extremely understaffed causing large class sizes and teachers who are unable to address students work in a timely manner, or if even at all. No accountability. They cancelled their Magnet Technology Explorations class for Elementary in 2022, and have not informed the Parents of this major change in curriculum that is no longer being taught. A perfect magnet program Bait and switch where they pull in smart kids and don’t provide the education that is marketed. What is shown on their CCSD's website is not being taught. They promote "Digital Sciences", but no longer use dedicated computer labs nor dedicated computer teachers for Elementary. Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter is enrolled to start first grade here. I had reservations about the school, despite the awards they have won. I have heard things from teachers that it isn't really that great of a school and really just average. Well I accepted the seat for my child and attended open house today.

I was very upset to find that a student from my child's previous school that has bad behavior and actually punched my child was in her new classroom. I went to speak to the principal, Kamela Washington, regarding this and she stated they won't move my child into a different classroom because the classes are all full. I know this isn't true because another parent from my daughter private kindergarten told us that hadn't registered until the day of the open house and didn't know which teachers their twins were getting for 1st grade since you don't receive an assigned teacher until your child is registered. So there were still open seats in other classrooms when I asked several weeks ago and again at open house.

The principal said I could ask my child's teacher to put the kids at the different tables in the classroom. Yea, that will really help. What kind of school offers to do nothing when a child has been physically assaulted by anther student and doesn't want to be in the same classroom?!?

This is not some great "magnet school" just another crappy and corrupt CCSD school.

Jo Mackey also reserves seats for every student from my daughter's private kindergarten even though the magnet program is supposed to be on a lottery system. Close Quote

Open Quote I have received numerous notes and flyers sent home with spelling mistakes. I have received notices with incorrect dates for teacher in-service. In addition, if you are pro-Obama, this is this school for you. This is an academy of democratic and progressive politics. If the school we are zoned for had a traditional school year like Jo Mackey, and not 12-month, I would have pulled my child out of school mid-year and sent him to a public school. There is no way I will let him attend 2 years in a row. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
