As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Faculty punished my son for ripping his pants in PE on October 30, 2012. They sent him to In School Suspension and made him write the uniform policy as well as "What I did wrong, Why it was wrong, What I'll do next time and Future punishment." The poor kid actually thought he did something wrong. The students were not allowed to change into workout clothing because there was a substitute teacher.

The first meeting with the Asst. Principal Mrs. Lucero seemed to go well as she was apologetic and helpful. All I asked for was a written apology for my son who was punished wrongly. Today Mrs. Lucero denied he was ever sent to "In School Suspension and no letter of apology was received.

My son has never had any issue with any schools before this incident. In fact, he is very shy and trustworthy. The faculty in my opinion is dishonest, not trustworthy and abusive to the students in their care. Close Quote

Open Quote I attended Harrison Middle school in the early 1990's. While I can say that not much has changed in the surrounding area in the last twenty years, my time there was well spent. I was part of the gifted program my entire school career with APS (I went to Saint Pius for high school). I excelled at this school despite the socioeconomic issues. I had teachers who cared, infinitely. Mrs. DeSmet was the most incredible science teacher. Mr. Baldwin was an amazing history teacher and quite possibly the best teacher I've had in my life.

If the teachers care even a fraction as much as they did at that point, then you have nothing to fear. The only other reviewer commented about the student body being racist. I am white, and I experienced very little of that. Although in dealing with 11 to 14 year olds now, kids will be cruel, no matter what. It was always handled in a timely and appropriate matter. Open Quote I went to Harrison middle school when I was a child. I am now in my thirties. I wish I could personally warn any worthwhile child and his/her parents not to attend this school. If you have to commute for 45 minutes every morning to take your child to a better school, do it for your child's sake.

The teachers were so uninterested in there jobs that one year as my mom and I came to register for school and my English teacher from the previous year told my mom and I that she wished she were greeting me at another school. The only teacher that was a true educator was Dr. Kravitz. She stood alone as a professional who cared about how she affected the students. Had it not been for her I would have picked up on the other teachers' apathy and not pursued higher education some years later.

The socioeconomic environment of the Albuquerque's south valley is horrific and as a result, my classmates were racist (they were of Mexican descent), and violent. I think back on my three long years at Harrison and I deeply wish I could have gone to some other school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
