Open Quote I speak from personal experience when I say that Florence Carlton School has a caring, effective staff of teachers from Kindergarten through 12th grade. My four children have graduated from Florence. All have graduated from college; three have advanced degrees. Florence Carlton School (K-12)is a relatively small, rural school, and some may believe that choices for high school students are lacking. What Florence lacks in choices, it makes up for in giving students a firm foundation which prepares them for success in secondary education including college, the military and technical school. Everyone from the administrative staff to the lunch ladies care about students and their success. This is a school district that cares about kids. A vocal minority has besmirched the reputation of the school, but the majority of people who live in the community and parents who have students in the school, support and approve of the administration and school. Open Quote Administration has continued to make choices that beneft staff and have forgotten about the students. Current spending levels for contracts have caused student supplies and books to be moved aside. Economic hardship has fallen on the tax base that will soon reflect the community views on the inflated union and administrative contracts. An overhaul is due. Close Quote

Open Quote Not the ideal atmosphere for education. Administration has defaulted in several area's. Finances are a big problem. Pay raises have been over 30% in the last six years but the school ranking continues to sink. Close Quote

Open Quote I've seen many talented young people excel academically, artistically and competitively at FCS. That is a result of supportive parenting, good teaching, and dedicated students. A community that supports its schools and inspires its youth, builds a stronger and more positive community! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
