Open Quote What a breath of FRESH AIR to have been able to get into this school district! In a previous school my child attended, there were many security issues that would leave a parent in serious shock. Because of the previously horrific experiences, I've watched carefully at the pickup routine at this school for those that aren't riding a bus. My child's teacher NEVER fails to make eye contact with the person picking the child up to make sure the child is going with the correct authorized person. On another instance, I called school to give permission to have someone else pick my child up after school and the secretary flat-out refused to do it. She explained that since I was on a cell phone, she had no way to verify who I really was (caller ID) that was calling and that I would have to start sending in written notes. Seriously. I was WOW'd as I had never thought about that!

There seems to be a large parental involvement, as well. Any time I happen to go into the classroom, there are always at LEAST two parents helping out. Even though this district is more of an "upper scale" community, you certainly wouldn't know it by talking to the parents, as a whole. Most parents are extremely nice, considerate, and helpful.

My child has made leaps and bounds from a fine-motor skill standpoint (writing) and the "potty mouth" she's picked up at the previous school has seemed to subside since being at Fuerstenau. My kid's teacher is very personal and caring and it reflects in many aspects (through the students' behavior, the schoolwork that comes home, etc).

Don't hesitate to pick DeWitt....I am VERY particular when it comes to these things and I am VERY pleased with our experiences thus far :) Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
