Open Quote We bolted as fast as we could from this school. Attended for 2 years, hoping the second year would be better with all the changes. It was worse. They used a color system for behavior, essentially public shaming. The kids (scholars) were treated like robots. Silence at all times except when allowed to speak (silent halls, silent lunch, etc) or at their whopping 15 minute structured recess. The school couldn't keep a Spanish teacher, going through about 5 in a year before giving up. The behaviorist changed many times as well and was completely ineffective. The school coddled bullies and severely inappropriate behavior instead of a balanced approach to be sure the other student received support as well. The other kids are expected to suffer through and understand another child's reckless behavior while the reckless child is told it's acceptable to behave that way. Our child has played a bit of catch up in his new school because this school was failing. Stay away from Salem schools, especially this one, unless you welcome failing education and behavioral issues resulting from your child's time there. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
