Open Quote I was very concerned about the transition from Elementary to Middle school, but the teachers here have been very helpful and preceptive to the kids. Close Quote

Open Quote My expectations were much higher, for MP. I found that it is not so much MP but school system itself. Although I do believe that Dr. Robinson & Co. as well as the school board has good intentions. The education system in US is broken. Many teacher and administrators live outside FWCS district and their kids go to SWAC, NWAC, or to a private school in the area. I personally can't blame them, even more so after seeing the scores on this site. Parents need to be involved- find out what is going on in the classrooms- volunteer- email teachers- know your students teacher. My guess is that if you are taking the time to read this you already do most of these things. FWCS has something called "Edline", however they will be changing edline to another system, hopefully the teachers will post homework, test, grades, and important info. If we as parents use it online and expect them too, it will help everyone involved, mostly our kids. This I know for a fact, don't allow your child to fail. Close Quote

Open Quote Memorial Park Middle School is sadly considered the BEST school in the FWCS district. I say sadly because, if this is YOUR BEST, oh my gosh what does your worst look like? SPorts? It is a magnet and has limited sports. So how can it be the best? I am disappointed for the kids who have to endure what is offered to them. Hopefully some day the FWCS will follow suit with the other local public school systems and redirect their focus on academics and most importantly SAFETY of our kids. This school for example is in a dire area of town and the kids are subject to criminal activity being around them regularly. There have been shootings just recently ON THE SCHOOL PROPERTY. Overall, please do SOMETHING to make this school safe and worth our kids attending. I am a parent who stays involved with my kids. Being aware of what is available for their education is important to me. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
